I don't know why I'm taking the time to say this but it's been bugging me... the thought of someone wanting to email me and me not responding is torment to my mind. So just know that the link on my name IS NOT A REAL EMAIL ADRESS!!! Now that I've got that off my mind, there's some cheesepuffs on the counter lookin' mighty tasty...

Well done Walker. I didn't even mention women, which can also be a motivating factor. (Kaiser Wilheim said, "Give me a woman who loves beer and I will rule the world." Kind of fits the point.)

I give you an A for your report, for everyone else, time is awasting.

You know what we should do.

Some of ya'll need to visit Battle Ground Halo and help liven the forums. There's one forum in particular, called Roleplaying (Fan fiction). It definitely needs some wakening up. That forum is dead as a doornail.

BTW, I'm not trying to get ya'll to leave HBO, by no means. This is the best Halo fan fiction site on the web. It's just that BGH, in my humble opinion, needs some people with the intelligence to out think a rock. Let me stop before I get in trouble for spamming...

There won't be any Spartans in my story, but maybe I'll throw in a few Marines of Thespian decent.

But it'll probably be kinda like the Alamo, just on a larger scale.

hornet, I'm a History Professor!
Now, I'm definitely joking...

In every war there are always those who beleive they are doing the work of the Lord. Jackson, the sniper, in SPR, for example, who quoted scripture passages such as Psalms 144:1 while he killed people: "Blessed be the Lord my strength which teacheth my hands to war and my fingers to fight." Stonewall Jackson sought divine guidance in his every endeavor. Many soldiers have been comforted by their beleif that the Lord has preappointed the time for their passage, so there is nothing to fear from war. A great example of this is Patton, who stood up at the head of many trenches and remained there, without cover, shooting at Germans in WWI and even WWII. He was never hit, and survived both these conflicts and many border wars with Mexican bandits only to be killed in a car wreck in 1945.

So what is the motivation for war? That varies between every man. God, money, even women, as seen in the Trojan War. But at the heart of every soldier is his own raw courage and faith undaunted that allows him to stand up to the heat of battle unfalteringly and give his life to the cause he has committed to. In the words of an unknown Marine sergeant in WWI: "Come on, you sons of bitches! Do you want to live forever?"

God, I love WWII. I'm reading Winds of War right now, the prequel to War and Remembrance, both by Herman Wouk. It is set at the outbreak of WWII and is truly amazing, if you don't let the fact that its over 1000 pages faze you.

Walker, I know what you mean. Hastings, 1066, Norman Conquest: Agincourt, that was the big French defeat(wait, theres been a lot of those) to the English in the Hundred Years War, correct? When about 6000 archers kicked some serious French ass.

I really am more of a WWII buff. Anyway, Mainevent, as to why we fight wars? Thats a loaded question. You can take the Marxist view and say all wars are fought over economical clashes (market control, raw materials). Or you can say that religion (such as the Middle East now) is the basis for every war. Or simply survival (such as the barbaric German tribes pushing into the Roman Empire because the Muslims were forcing them out.) Personnally I think its a mix of all three, but to be sure:

I want a ten page thesis on the cause of war, 12 font, Times New Roman, Chicago Style, double spaced, and I want it on my desk tomorrow. Everyone at HBO must finish this, or Louis will ban you.

Good luck, and like always, check your grammar.

I'm more of a WWII history person myself. But war in general is fascinating to me. Why we do it? What driving motives that we see and DONT see led people to do the things they did.

People are too shortsided these days.

I'm fourteen, so I mean, I don't know that much, only what the History Channel tells me, but that's enough...........right?

Thermopylae was awesome. I too, am obsessed with histroy. At school when I mention some battle or another, Hastings or Agincourt, for example, people look at me like I'm crazy. They say history is boring. I just don't get their attitude. Hail, Leonidas!

Man, that was great Walker, but, I have to give you a 9.5/10, because I want to read a longer one, longer the story, the better.

Ah, so we have some intellectuals here. So, Steele, is your story going to include Spartans and be a three day battle, like History says? I'm a history major so this appeals to me and if you make any inconsistencies I'LL ROAST YOU ALIVE, just kidding. Hope to see your new story soon.

Yep, nice story Walker. I've noticed you like doing these hero things; I'm doing one, but it's based more like Thermopylae...

Hawthorne was the name of the main prosecutor in the Salem witch trials. That's where I got it from; also I have never heard of Crucible. Thanks to all for your comments.

Very nice. Those darn energy sword wielding Elites, always crashing the party.

What is this, three or four stories about unsung heroes from you? I'm beginning to see a pattern. :)

You're Hawthorne, if he is based on the famous writer, has a very different personality. Rather than preaching hellfire and damnation, your character seems to act in a kind and forgiving manner. Nice contrast, if thats what you were going for. Also, very well written. Keep it up.

Nicely written. But um about the hawthorne guy.

Are you currently being punished by reading the Crucible like I was in my sophmore year or were you just grabbing a name you heard out of thin air?
